Yes. In Portugal, employers are legally required to take out Workplace Accident Insurance for all employees, under Law No. 98/2009 of 4 September.

What Is Considered a Workplace Accident?

A workplace accident is an accident that occurs at the workplace, during working hours, while travelling on the usual route between home and the workplace, or while travelling for work purposes.

What Is the Difference Between Workplace Accident Insurance and Health Insurance Provided by the Company?

The two types of insurance serve different purposes and do not replace one another. Health insurance, on the other hand, improves access to everyday healthcare services and is an optional employee benefit.

Are the Insurance Premiums Tax-Deductible for the Company?

Yes. As Workplace Accident Insurance premiums are generally treated as an operating expense, their cost may be deductible for Portuguese Corporate Income Tax purposes, subject to the applicable tax rules.

    How is the price calculated?

The premium varies according to the company’s business activity, the number of employees, its total payroll, the level of risk associated with each role and the cover selected. For this reason, we assess each case individually before providing a quotation.
